Dior Impressions Cuir

I made my first StrawberryNet order a few weeks ago -- I was nervous since I've been burned by brokerage fees before, but when I saw this item, I bit the bullet and ordered.  This is one of Lisa Eldridge's All-Time Favourites, something she keeps in her own makeup bag.  I didn't think much of it when I looked at it -- meh, another neutral shadow palette -- but then I started idly Googling swatches.  That's a risky little game, innit.

Now that I have it, it's even better than in Lisa's video.  The combination of a warm, chocolate brown, a    smoky, bronze-gold, and the minky highlight makes it the perfect, everyday trio.  These colours are pretty dupeable, but having them housed in one gorgeous compact and embossed so incredibly beautifully makes me glad I have it.  If you're new to my blog, I'm kind of travel-makeup obsessed; I adore anything multi-use, travel-size, travel-friendly, packing-friendly, all-in-one.  Packing for a trip is about 40% of the enjoyment for me.  Yup.

This is an older palette (limited edition from 2008), so the colours aren't quite as pigmented as what I usually expect from a Dior eye shadow.  They are still gorgeously creamy and easy to apply, so I don't mind.  In fact, this would be a great palette for beginners who can't manipulate too much pigment.

The packaging is the same size as a Dior Quint or their highlighters.  I don't think Dior packaging is especially sturdy, but I have yet to break one.  That's impressive because I break most things, as evidenced by the number of laptops I've had in the past eight years *cough*seven*cough*.

Bottom line:  Do you need this?  Not unless you're a vintage Dior collector.  You could also make do with MAC Mulch, Urban Decay Smog and... I don't think I own a colour quite like this one, but it looks like something Laura Mercier or Lancome would make.

Do you have any limited-edition loves?

  1. What a beautiful print :)
My luck with Dior eyeshadow is not that great, I only have one quad that works so well with me. The others are meh.
I don't have any favorite LE single eyeshadow but when it comes to palette I have quite a few, one of them is Dior Jungle Palette (the only one from Dior that works for me) and Chanel Harmonbie du Soir :)

    1. I really wanted the jungle palette when it came out! And I've read such amazing things about Harmonie du Soir. I bet both are gorgeous on you!

  2. Ahhhkk--why must you tempt me so with lovely LE creations!! WANT! And mostly just for that gorgeous embossing. I swear, I am SUCH a sucker for prettily embossed powders!! :P

  4. I grabbed this baby from ebay. I went to strawberrynet first but their customer services weren't responsive and flexible enough with my payment. Why not paypal in the first place? It'd've given me the peace of mind. Anyway, I got it for higher price tag on ebay. But I'm still happy. I'm obsessed with this color family!!! My only complaint about Impressions Cuir is the texture. Not sure if it's just my palette, or it was from 2008 or the seller. I don't know. But it feels a bit powdery and experience minor fall-outs which I never do with Dior eyeshadows.

Yay to travel compact handy palette lovers! I'm the same way too. x

    1. Oh no! Mine's okay in terms of fallout, but I agree that it's more powdery than my other Dior shadows. This is my most favouritest colour family EVER.

  5. That print is so stunning and the swatches are really pretty. I'm also a big fan of travel sized make-up, it's nice to have small luxuries like this one when you're on the go :) x

  6. OH WOW YOU FOUND THIS!!! I remember Lisa Eldridge mentioning it in her video as well, but I never really looked because I know it's pretty impossible to find one now. Lucky you! Darn, I know I already own 200 similar shades, but just looking at this thing creates so much lemming...

    1. I honestly didn't even realize what it was until I'd left the page open for a little while. I think it's the Eldridge stamp of approval that creates the lemming!

  8. I'm usually not a big fan of LE items, because I just can't keep up with all the releases - by the time I decide whether I want it, it's usually gone! But I do sometimes see something I just "have to have" and purchase. This is a lovely shade... plus, whenever Lisa Eldridge mentions she likes something, I seem to automatically find it appealing haha

    1. I can't be bothered with the releases either -- I don't even read posts that are release-based anymore. I feel the exact same way about Lisa Eldridge; I'm pretty sure a significant portion of my collection is made up of things she's used in videos.

  9. Oooh, that is very pretty! I spotted this in a Lisa Eldridge video too, but like Sunny, thought it was impossible to find. I used to use StrawberryNet quite a bit, but haven't checked the site for a while. Will have to have a little look on there again.

  10. Ooh this looks gorgeous... what a good find! I am a huge fan of neutrals, especially in small compacts like this one :) I can't think of anything limited edition I've fallen in love with (luckily I suppose), but I'm sure it will happen one day!

    1. I think I once fell in love with a limited edition MAC colour but they have this amazing program called Gone But Not Forgotten where you can get them to send you any remaining stock!

  11. What a nice color! Taupes seem boring but they really are the most useful colors...Thanks for stopping by Wild Beauty, I am following you back through Bloglovin'. Unfortunately no GFC for me as I'm on Wordpress, but there's Blogovin', RSS and Networked Blogs as well as FB if you like to keep them in one place...xxMeli

  12. I think I might buy this with the sole purpose of staring at it all day!! LOL!! I love the texture on it!! The color looks beautiful in the pan, though I think it might be a touch too warm for me? hmmm....

    1. I have definitely done that before. The middle and lightest colour lean cool -- the darkest shade is comparable to MAC Mulch, and it's the warmest colour in the palette.
